The KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd group and supplier, Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, were each fined RM60,000 at the Shah Alam Sessions Court today (15 July), for charges of hurting the feelings of Muslims in regards to the sales of socks with the word ‘Allah’ written on them last March.
According to a report by Harian Metro, Judge Muhamad Anas Mahadzir made the decision after Deputy Public Prosecutor, Datuk Masri Mohd Daud shared that there were new developments regarding the incident.
Following that, he asked for the charges to be once again read against all the accused.
As soon as the charges were read out, the representative of KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd, Tee Kok Hiem, as the company’s general manager, pleaded guilty. The Director of Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, Soh Hui San, also followed suit.
Prior to this, on March 26, Datuk Seri Dr Chai Kee Kan and his wife, Datin Seri Loh Siew Mui, from KK Supermart & Superstore, pleaded not guilty to 1 charge each, which is the charge of intentionally hurting the feelings of Muslims by displaying socks with the word ‘Allah’ written on it.
They were charged with committing the offense at KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd, Bandar Sunway, at 6:30am on March 13.
Meanwhile, Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, along with its 3 Directors, were each charged with 1 count of conspiring to hurt the feelings of Muslims. The 3 Directors is a family, 61-year-old Soh Chin Huat, his wife, 62-year-old Goh Li Huay, and their 36-year-old son, Soh Hui San.
