According to Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the ministry of education will bear the cost of Covid-19 screening test for primary school students.

He told reporters after attending the handover ceremony of Selangor government clinic, as reported by Sin Chew Daily.

Besides, according to the guidelines of the national screening strategy, for the students and staff who are not vaccinated in universities, colleges and high schools, regular Covid-19 screening tests must be done, and the school will be responsible for the cost of it.

Starting 29 November, primary school students are required to undergo weekly Covid-19 screening tests in rotation, to avoid new school clusters.

Meanwhile, the health minister also announced that the ministry of health will increase genomic surveillance and speed up the booster shot process.

“The new variant is named ‘Omicron’ by the World Health Organisation. In addition to restrictions on the entry of travellers from some countries, the ministry of health will increase genomic surveillance & further speed up #PICKBooster. People are advised to wear face masks, avoid crowded places & practice #TRIIS,” he said in a Twitter statement yesterday.
