With Rembayung’s launch confirmed, its mastermind, celebrity chef Khairul Aming, shared that the restaurant received more than 3,000 job applications in a single day.
If you’re one of those who submitted your resume, Khairul Aming has some bad news for you. While he’s touched that many have shown interest in working with him at the restaurant, Rembayung has no vacancies for the time being.

“We had 5 vacancies yesterday, but they’re all shortlisted,” Khairul Aming said in his Threads post.
Those accepted didn’t know they were going to work for Khairul Aming
In one of his live videos, Khairul Aming also explained that he deliberately kept his identity a secret during the hiring process, as he wanted to hire the manpower based on the individual’s merit and not for his popularity.

Rembayung is set to open in January next year
Rembayung aims to promote Malay traditional dishes in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The restaurant, which is expected to open in January 2026, can cater to up to 250 customers at a time.
With a capital of RM4 million, Khairul Aming announced his first-ever restaurant, 10 years after he had been in the industry.
The celebrity chef spent RM500,000 on the kitchen alone, which he dubbed the heart of the restaurant, with premium-grade kitchen equipment to allow the chefs to cook efficiently.
Are you excited for the opening of Rembayung?
