As congratulatory messages come in from world leaders across the globe, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, former President Donald Trump is now President-elect after securing the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency in the 2024 US Presidential Election.
This is according to the projection by Edison Research, as reported by Reuters. The report added that the swing state of Wisconsin pushed him over the threshold to win the election, with his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, no longer able to catch up with the President-elect.
As of the time of writing, Trump is projected to win 277 Electoral College votes, 7 more than the needed number to secure the presidency and may yet extend the lead even further.
In his victory speech earlier today, the now-confirmed 47th President of the United States told his supporters that “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate”.
However, Harris has yet to concede, though it is futile at this point as Trump has secured enough Electoral College votes to win.
