Reuters reported that around 9:07 am local time today (December 29), a Jeju Air flight in South Korea ran off the runway and hit the guardrail while landing at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province. This caused a major accident, and the plane caught fire.
The flight – Jeju Air Flight 7C 2216, flying from Bangkok, Thailand to Muan International Airport in South Korea, with 175 passengers and 6 crew members on board, a total of 181 people.
The accident has caused at least 28 deaths, and rescue work on the scene is still in full swing.
As of 11 am, the death toll has risen to 62 passengers, and the number is likely to go up as most of the aircraft was burned.
Surprisingly, the local fire department successfully rescued a passenger and a crew member who survived the crash, reported 8TV News.
