Otaku fans of the hugely popular Slam Dunk series, we might just have some good news that will get you literally jumping for joy! According to reports by Sin Chew Daily, the popular Japanese manga that revolves around competitive basketball will be brought back into circulation after it had been suspended for several decades.
This announcement was made just recently on Takehiko Inoue’s official Twitter page, where he showed off some glossy pages of the yet unreleased material that he had been working on. Takehiko is most notable for creating the long-running basketball manga series, which has expanded into a multimedia franchise that includes anime, figurines, and toys.
Originally launched in 1997, this new edition, called “PLUS/SLAM DUNK ILLUSTRATIONS 2” includes well over 130 illustrations that were drawn in the past and used for other publications. There are even 11 new illustrations newly created for this compilation, with hopes that they will reignite the same enthusiasm fans had for the original manga.
Initially serialised in 1990 to 1996 in Weekly Shonen Jump, the manga was then collected into 31 tankobon volumes. For those who grew up with Slam Dunk, it was considered one of the three pioneering ‘sports’ mangas during its heyday. Time for a revival, we think!
Are there any of you who are as excited as we are with this announcement? How many of you are ready to head down into the court for another round with Sakuragi and Rukawa?
