The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Idris Ahmad has asked state Islamic religious departments in Malaysia to investigate ‘taubat’ or repentance packages at RM20 which are against Islamic teachings. These packages have been emerging on social media sites recently.
As reported by national news agency Bernama, Idris stressed that investigations are necessary in order to track down those involved in the package. Furthermore, actions must be taken against them for their actions for deceiving and taking advantage of others.
The Religious Affairs Minister asserted,
“To repent, and have to pay for the purpose, is not right, and if we do not have adequate knowledge we will be easily deceived by others. Allah tells us to teach and learn to become knowledgeable individuals, because with the knowledge we will not be easily deceived,”
Idris made the comment when asked by reporters regarding the package during a press conference at the ‘Inspirasi Qaseh Ramadan’ and Aidilfitri 1443 by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM) in Bukit Gantang yesterday. These ‘taubat’ packages have been spreading through advertisements on social media sites and are charging RM20 to anyone that wishes to repent.
