The man was unable to find an ambulance to bring his deceased father to the crematorium to perform the last rites as the healthcare system in India is being overwhelmed by a surge in Covid-19 cases.

One of the most tragic scenes one could imagine in the city of Agra, India has left many in tears as a local man had to tie his father’s deceased body to his car’s roof in order to reach the cremation ground there. As reported by India Today, the man brought his father’s body to the crematorium in Agra’s Mokshadham in an unconventional manner due to the city being hit with a surge in Covid-19 cases that have overwhelmed the healthcare system there.

Due to this, no ambulance was available to bring the body to the crematorium in order to perform the last rites for the deceased.

The city of Agra has been reporting more than 600 new Covid-19 cases daily and due to the shortage of ambulances, many have to wait for up to six hours just to carry those that have perished due to Covid-19 to the cremation ground. A local social activist, Yogesh Malhotra stressed that the number of cases and deaths are constantly rising in the city.

Meanwhile, the president of a political party in India, the Samajwadi Party, Ramgopal Baghel has blamed the state and centre government for the situation. He said,

“We all can see that the BJP (the ruling party) has completely failed to handle this pandemic. The party’s failure is coming to light this time. Lack of essential medical facilities for patients like oxygen, beds and drugs can be seen clearly. BJP is misleading people by making false promises,”

Let’s hope that the Covid-19 situation in India will stabilise soon! Scenes such as this is just heartbreaking and no one deserves to go through such a tragedy.
