By now, everyone surely knows about the IMU student who made a sexist and insensitive comment following the death of local celebrity, Emily Kong.

Just yesterday (12 March 2019), we learnt that IMU is holding a disciplinary hearing to investigate their student who made the ignorant comment. They also mentioned that the student has violated a social media policy which IMU initiated in 2012/2013.

Following that, IMU has revealed that the student is currently on “home leave” until further notice is given. A snippet from IMU’s statement reads,

“Following an urgent management meeting on Monday, 11 March 2019, the student has been issued a show cause letter and instructed to be on home leave until further notice.”

“In addition, the IMU management has provided immediate medical evaluation and behavioural counselling to him.”

Thereafter, IMU said that they will not be releasing anymore updates pertaining to this issue during the investigations. They continued,

“Since the formal investigative process by the IMU Disciplinary Board is underway, there are restrictions on what we can announce publicly during the proceedings. We will not be making any further statements until the proceedings are over.”

It looks like we’ve got to wait until the investigations are over!

On that note, we hope that once the investigations are over, IMU will be able to come up with an apt solution for this matter.
