Recently, a video of a durian feast featuring a few politicians including Dewan Rakyat Deputy speaker, MP Mohd Rashid Hasnon received backlash from the public after footage of the alleged gathering went viral online. When the Batu Pahat MP was contacted by MalaysiaKini, he stated that the video was taken in 2020 before the first MCO. Later on, a police report was lodged and an investigation paper was opened to look into the incident.
In the latest development of this case, the Deputy speaker has issued out a statement of apology concerning that video.
“I apologise for the confusion when media personnel contacted me for a video in a durian farm and I answered their questions without watching the video prior.”
He continued and said that he only had time to analyse the video after he was done meeting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. The Deputy speaker elaborated by saying that he gets complaints from small-time farmers all the time as they have problems selling their produce before it goes bad.
“After looking closely at the viral video, it turns out that it’s a video of me going to a durian kampung farm that is managed by locals and is suffering due to the MCO.”
“Coincidentally, Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin was on a work trip in Batu Pahat, so we gifted her with some durians to bring home.”
The Batu Pahat MP continued his explanation by saying that they were brought to a durian farmer who wanted to vocalise their troubles.
“When I reached the farm, the durian farmer served the durians to us.”
“I ate a bit of it while discussing the help that can be given to the farmer.”
The deputy speaker has also said that he will be giving his full cooperation to PDRM in the case, reported Astro Awani.
