Seven people tragically lost their lives in a horrific accident involving 3 vehicles on the northbound lane of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) on December 23.
According to Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Mohd Pisar Aziz, the crash involved a tour bus carrying 27 passengers, a trailer, and an MPV.
One of the victims included a baby
According to BERNAMA, Mohd Pisar shared that the crash tragically took the lives of 3 men, 3 women, and a baby girl.
“5 of the victims were the driver and passengers in the MPV, including 2 men, 2 women, and the baby girl,” he explained.
The accident caused massive traffic congestion, stretching over 10 kilometres in both directions along the highway, leaving drivers stuck in a long gridlock.
A total of 33 victims were injured
Mohd Pisar said that the other 2 victims were the tour bus driver and a female passenger who had been on the bus.
He also mentioned that all the bodies were sent to Melaka Hospital for further arrangements.
He explained that 17 injured victims were rushed to Melaka Hospital, while 10 others were taken to Alor Gajah Hospital, and another 6 were sent to Pantai Ayer Keroh Hospital.
The victims sustained various injuries, and the police are still working to identify everyone involved. Another news outlet reported that one male victim’s body was severed above the waist due to the impact of the collision.
