On July 19, a helicopter in Bali, Indonesia, was flying when it suddenly came crashing down.
According to The Jakarta Post, the helicopter was carrying 5 people, 2 Australians and 3 Indonesians when the incident occurred.
I Nyoman Sidakarya, an official with the Denpasar Search and Rescue Agency, said that the helicopter took off at 2:33 pm from the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) area for a tour around Bali.
However, the chopper crashed five minutes into the ride at a limestone cliff in Pecatu Village. Thankfully, all five people onboard survived the crash.
“All the victims survived and have been taken to hospital for medical treatment.”
A spokesman for the Transportation Ministry’s Air Transportation Directorate General, Mokhammad Khusnu had issued a statement saying that the incident took place after the heli became entangled in kite strings.
“We have received a report that the accident of the PK-WSP type Bell 505 helicopter belonging to PT Whitesky Aviation in South Kuta was due to it being entangled in kite strings.”
It is also said that the ministry will be conducting intensive outreach on the dangers of kites and monitoring the situation alongside the Bali administration so as not to risk aviation safety and security.
It is so fortunate that the 5 people onboard were able to survive the helicopter crash. We hope that they recover soon.
