About a month ago, it was announced that Covid-19 positive patients will be allowed to vote in the nearing General Elections (GE15).

Now, Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has shared some procedures for both Covid-19 positive voters and the public.

Taking to his official Twitter page, he wrote, “Some general steps need to be taken to ensure that the voting process runs safely and to reduce the risk of infection to other voters as well as staff at voting stations. Health workers will be positioned at polling centers to assist with the voting of Covid-19 positive voters.”

Here are the steps mentioned:

  1. Face masks: The public are highly encouraged to wear face masks while voting but it is mandatory for Covid-19 patients to wear a face mask.
  2. Transportation: If you are Covid-19 positive, you are not allowed to take public transportation including ride-share services. You are also not allowed to stop anywhere before and after going to vote and must immediately return home after voting.
  3. Cleanliness: Everyone must make sure to sanitise their hands when at the voting station. It is also recommended that everyone bring along their own hand sanitiser.
  4. Physical distancing: Covid-19 positive voters must physically distance themselves, while it is also encouraged that the general public also practice physical distancing.

We genuinely hope that everyone remains safe from the Covid-19 virus now that it is predicted that cases will increase due to the highly infectious Omicron XBB variant.

Stay tuned for more updates!
