Health DG: Over 1,000 School Students Have Been Infected Since Start of 3rd Wave

Since the nation entered its third Covid-19 wave a month ago, over 1,000 school-going children have been infected with the dreaded virus.

In yesterday’s live press conference by KKM, Health Director-General, Dr Noor Hisham said that 587 cases reported since the third wave began were discovered to be positive cases from primary school students between the age of seven to 12. 670 students between the age of 13 to 18 have also been infected with the virus.

Dr Noor Hisham revealed an even higher statistic for cases recorded since February. “Since the start of the outbreak in February, 830 students aged seven to 12 have been infected with Covid-19. For those aged 13 to 18, there are 1,315 positive cases in total,” he said.

12 schools have been temporarily closed since 20 September, particularly those that have reported relations to clusters. The closed schools in each state are:

  • Negeri Sembilan 
    Three schools linked to the clusters Cahaya, Sofi, and Bah Manggis
  • Johor 
    Three schools linked to the clusters Simera and Rinting
  • Kuala Lumpur
    Two schools linked to clusters in Jalan Pantai and Long
  • Penang 
    One school linked to the Alma cluster
  • Melaka 
    One school linked to the Bukit cluster
  • Putrajaya
    One school linked to the Selasih cluster
  • Sarawak 
    One school linked to the Bah Arnab cluster
