Just today, we reported that badminton sporting brand, Victor, had apologised after Lee Zii Jia’s jersey at the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals yesterday (December 11), which they sponsored, had an upside-down Malaysian flag.
Now, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will be making moves to prevent such incidents from happening again.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, announced that her ministry will draft a new code of conduct for athletes, including the use of the Jalur Gemilang on their clothing.
She explained that this move is to prevent similar incidents involving the use of the Jalur Gemilang from recurring, including this latest incident involving the Malaysian professional male singles badminton player, Lee Zii Jia.
Additionally, Hannah Yeoh will discuss with the National Sports Council (MSN) to see what can be done in the code of conduct, including determining the action taken for offences.
“So far, we do not have a code or discipline that we can use regarding this issue. I will ask MSN to see what we can do to ensure that this does not happen again,” she said.
