A video of parents grieving over their deceased young daughter went viral in Indonesia recently due to the rather unique way they mourn their late daughter during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
As shared by the mother, @helsaseftini on TikTok, the couple painted their late daughter’s grave in pink and adorn the tombstone with a Hello Kitty graphic with the deceased’s name in its middle.
Although the video was posted in mid-April, it only went viral recently on TikTok, garnering over 2.9 million views and more than 105,000 likes.
In the video, the father of the deceased can be seen painting the grave in pink with the tombstone already adorned in a Hello Kitty theme.
Afterwards, the mother can be seen laying flower petals over the grave and gently caressing the tombstone afterwards.
It was revealed through the mother’s other posts that Hello Kitty was a favourite of her late daughter, Akel. The caption of the TikTok video reads, “Akel’s Baju Raya in heaven will be more beautiful than everything.”
Moreover, the mother also wrote this caption within the video,
“Most people are now busy purchasing or preparing Baju Raya for their children, I can only decorate my dear daughter’s grave with colour. Because we are confident Akel’s dress in heaven would be more beautiful than anything on Earth. Mom and Dad here always pray for Akel. Be happy in heaven my daughter.”

In the video’s comments section, most netizens express condolences to the couple for their loss and hope that they are given the strength to endure.
One commenter said she empathises with the mother, hoping that she remains patient and stays strong as her late daughter is waiting for her in heaven. Meanwhile, another commenter said that the family will be reunited in the afterlife.
However, they are also commenters that question the parents decorating the grave in such a way.
One netizen is perplexed at whether putting Hello Kitty-themed decorations is allowed, with another commenter sharing the same sentiment.
Besides that, there is also a commenter that advised the couple that it is best for the grave and tombstone to not be decorated with any emblems.
Regardless of the comments questioning the decorations, we’re sure that all that watch the video would feel saddened by the couple’s loss.
