Just 2 weeks ago, news of a cyclist being stopped by police at Penang Bridge made headlines. Since then the cyclist has been identified as Luca Montoya, a German man determined to cycle all the way to Alaska. He started on his journey from Singapore and has been cycling through Malaysia.
Luca has been documenting his journey on his TikTok account, @unknown.route where the video of him being escorted away by Malaysian police at Penang Bridge first made waves.
This time however he shares with us a wholesome moment he encountered at Johor a few weeks ago.
In a 25-second TikTok video, Luca tells viewers that he was taking a break after cycling and stopped at a gas station in Muar, Johor.
While resting at the petrol station, a woman passed by and he decides to ask her “could you recommend any place to have some lunch?”
The random woman then replies “actually.. not (around) here” and then she leaves the gas station…
Just 10 minutes later though she’s back with a packed lunch for Luca.
In his video, Luca was seen to be speechless as the random act of kindness from the Malaysian lady.
“Such a great moment” he says on video while smiling with the free pack of rice he just got.
The TikTok video now has over 45k likes and the caption writes “This happened on my 3rd day cycling in Malaysia. Something like that never happened before to me. This video describes pretty well how my experience was in Malaysia ❤️”
Of course Malaysian netizens then flooded the comment section with praises for the woman and warm welcomes for Luca.
One comment with 1560+ likes said “Malaysian hospitality at its best. Welcome to our beautiful country“.
While another netizen wrote “that’s how Malaysian people treat people around us.. because we are friendly and respect each other. Welcome to our beautiful country, Malaysia“.

Luca has since left Malaysia and is currently in Thailand. We wish him all the best for the rest of his journey to Alaska!
