Previously, we shared how the constant closure of the footbridge from Padang Besar KTM Station to the nearby Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex has caused travellers some inconvenience to travel through the Thai-Malaysia border.
If you travel via train from Kuala Lumpur, the train shuttle service from the KTM Padang Besar Station to Hat Yai which passes through and makes a stop at ICQS is only available twice a day, hence many travellers opt to travel to ICQS by foot and take a shuttle van from the Thai border to Hat Yai.
Special direct trains connecting Kuala Lumpur and Hat Yai
Well, for a limited time, there’s now an easier way to travel directly from Kuala Lumpur to Hat Yai via train, as KTM Berhad has announced the return of the MySawasdee special train, an express train service bringing passengers directly to Hat Yai from Kuala Lumpur and vice-versa.
This special train service is only operational sparingly throughout the year, with KTM Berhad announcing its much-anticipated return for the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.
Available only on 9 and 12 February 2024
Taking to its official Facebook page, KTM Berhad said that the MySawasdee special train is available only on 9 February at 10.40pm for a direct trip from KL Sentral to Hat Yai, which will arrive at Hat Yai at 9.05am the next day.
Meanwhile, the return direct train from Hat Yai to KL Sentral is available only on 12 February at 10.30am, which will arrive at KL Sentral at 11.05pm the same day.
Tickets for the MySawasdee special train start at only RM75 one-way, which makes it one of the most convenient and affordable ways to visit the Thailand border town from Kuala Lumpur.
Besides that, the express train also offers some unique features, such as offering both seating and sleeper berth coaches, as well as a special coach with disco-like lights for you to party your way to and from Thailand.
