In a viral X post, Syahredzan Johan, the Member of Parliament for Bangi recently shared an image of illegally occupied parking spots by a food vendor. The incident took place outside Klinik Kesihatan Bangi, but here’s what’s grinding Syahredzan’s gears (and probably yours too).
The road had just been fixed so that visitors to the clinic would have a place to park
“The road at the parking area had just been paved, and it didn’t take long for the food vendor to set up his tent!” Syahredzan remarked disappointingly.
On August 6, Syahredzan shared a short clip which showed the newly paved road meant to be used for parking. However, Syahredzan shared an update the following day, on August 7, showing that some of the designated parking spots had already been occupied by a food vendor.
This upset Syahredzan, given how limited parking in the area was.
“I am so upset and I beg all the food vendors, please think about others. We have plenty of visitors here with limited parking spaces.”
The MP also clarified that he had brought the matter to the City Council, and actions will be taken soon.
In response to a netizen’s suggestion to paint the designated parking area, Syahredzan said the City Council should deploy its officers to do the job, and here’s why.
“They have the specifications for the parking lot. I have also informed the City Council about painting the parking spots.”
Food vendors, please follow SOPs!
Social media users, including those who are familiar with the area, were not happy to see the food vendor’s quick action in “claiming” the parking spots for himself. Many of them expressed their anger and reminded other food vendors to follow the proper SOPs if they wanted to set up their stalls in the area.
“If the City Council asks him to leave, he would say Malay vendors are being oppressed.”
“There’s a lot in less than 100 meters away where vendors do their businesses there. This is selfish, you’re setting up your stall right at the entrance of the clinic.”
“If your stall is confiscated, you’ll blame the authorities. You’re doing things illegally without thinking of the trouble you’re causing others.”
“This is stubborn and irresponsible. Let’s boycott and stay away from this stall. The visitors of the clinic have always had parking issues and they should be prioritised.”
“I don’t understand the vendors who do this. Please apply for licenses and follow the SOPs or at least talk to the City Council.”
“If the properties get confiscated, they’re going to say Malays are not being helped. Please apply for licenses through the right channel.”
“If City Council takes action, they’re going to play the victim and take out the racial card again.”
Parking spots are meant for vehicles. To all the vendors, simply visit the City Council’s official website (based on your district) to apply for the relevant licenses.
