Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that Firefly will be resuming flights to Singapore from 21st April 2019 onwards. This comes four months after all its Singapore flights were suspended due to its services being moved from Changi to Seletar Airport.
However, Singapore already withdrew its Instrument Landing System (ILS) procedures for Seletar Airport, prompting Firefly to resume its flights to the island nation.
Anthony Loke was quoted by The Star as saying,
“Last Saturday (6th April), Malaysia and Singapore issued a joint statement to announce the way forward in terms of the Seletar Airport issue.”
“Both agreed that Singapore would withdraw the ILS approach into Seletar, while Malaysia suspends indefinitely its permanent Restricted Area (RA) over Pasir Gudang. This will enable aircraft to fly into Seletar using a visual approach.”
“We are happy to say that with this move, Firefly will resume operations to Singapore via Seletar beginning April 21st.”
The Transport Minister also added that Malindo has already applied to Singaporean airport authorities to fly to Seletar, so more flights to this airport will resume soon.
Earlier on 1st December 2018, Firefly issued an announcement stating that they would be cancelling all flights to Singapore until the authorities cleared all remaining matters relating to this move to Seletar airport’s new terminal.
