This is such a heartbreaking story! A recent post about a homeless family living in the Rest and Service Area (R&R) at Sungai Buloh has gotten netizens’ attention after a kind Malaysian man shared their predicament.
Zack said that his friends had stopped at the Sungai Buloh R&R to pump petrol when another man, Faizal, approached them to ask for some jumper cables to start his car.
“When my friends went to his car to help him, they were shocked at the condition of his car. It was messy, there were clothes strewn everywhere and mosquito repellent surrounding the car as well. A few of Faizal’s small children were also sleeping in the car. My friends asked him what he was doing in the R&R and he said that they were just taking a break.”
“However, my friends felt that something was amiss and continued questioning him. That was when Faizal broke down and admitted that his family had been homeless for the past two months. They could not afford to get another house so they were forced to live in their car by the highway.” So sad!
The kind men were touched by his story and decided to place Faizal and his family at a budget hotel in Kota Damansara for the time being. Zack visited Faizal after that and got the whole story from him. He was surprised to find out that although Faizal had a Malaysian father, he did not have an IC.
“Faizal said that he was born in a house in Selangor but the midwife who delivered him passed away, which meant he wasn’t properly registered as a citizen. Plus, his mother is Indonesian while his father is Malaysian, which did not make it any easier.”
The poor man had only studied up to standard five, so he could only get low-paying jobs to survive. His wife was jobless at the moment as she was fired after her employer found out that she was pregnant. She had tried to make ends meet by selling nasi lemak at Bukit Beruntung but due to an unstable income, they owed RM100 in rent and was evicted from their home.
They have three young children aged two, five and eight years old who were forced to lived in the car with them too. Their two-month old baby had to be given away as they simply could not afford to feed the baby. Currently, Faizal is the sole breadwinner but he only earns RM50 a day washing cars at Sungai Penchala.
When asked whether his young children had milk to drink, he said, “No, sometimes they drink sirap or just tap water.” Zack was saddened by this news and asked him why he did not ask for help as he was a citizen of Malaysia. The parents replied, “We don’t want to trouble anyone with our problems. We have our family and we’re willing to work hard. We believe that Allah is testing us but we’re confident that we can pass.”
His touching post garnered more than 10,000 shares in two short days as many people were moved by this sad tale. Hence, Zack urges anyone interested to help this family to come forward and do so.
