Following criticism of Malaysia’s official Olympic attire, Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) is taking Malaysians’ comments into consideration and has decided to create a newly improved design.
While this news has brought relief to some Malaysians, one particular individual couldn’t hold back from voicing his opinion on the redesign.
“It’s pointless if the team doesn’t bring home the gold medal”
According to Sinar Harian, Chef de Mission Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, said that the main theme of the official attire includes the use of gold instead of orange to bring the aura of the medals that the national contingent aspires to win at the prestigious world sports event.
Hamidin added that, while the colour might be appealing, it won’t matter much if the team doesn’t win any gold or other medals.
“OCM has agreed with Yonex (the official attire manufacturer), to switch to gold because we’re aiming to win gold medals. That’s the theme, and Yonex thinks gold pairs nicely with black,” he added.
He’s urging everyone to focus on what matters
Hamidin went on to explain that the use of the Malaysian flag on the left side of the official attire, which is not accurate as raised by social media users, is actually the official OCM logo.
“Orange, gold, black, and blue are all acceptable colors, this is the logo of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, not the Malaysian flag, so there’s no issue,” he clarified.
He also pointed out that most of the country’s athletes competing in the 2024 Olympic Games approve of the official attire design for Malaysia’s contingent in Paris.
With just a month left until Paris 2024 officially kicks off on July 26, Hamidin stressed the importance of everyone, including the public, continuing to provide support to the national contingent throughout these Olympic Games.
