A video circulating on social media, created using artificial intelligence (AI), claims that a soap product widely available in Malaysian stores contains pig DNA. These claims have caused concern among Malaysian consumers regarding the product’s status.
The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has since responded to the claims and provided an update.

The product does not display a Halal logo
In its official statement released last night (10 February), JAKIM confirmed that the product is not Halal-certified. The department further clarified that the product does not carry a Halal logo.
“The product also does not display a Halal logo from any foreign Halal Certification Body (FHCB) recognised by JAKIM,” the statement added.
Consequently, JAKIM reminded Malaysian consumers, particularly Muslims, to remain vigilant and carefully check product labels and ingredients. At the time of writing, the manufacturer has yet to address the matter.
The status of pig DNA claims remains unverified
It is important to note that in its statement, JAKIM did not confirm whether the soap actually contains pig DNA, as it only clarified the lack of Halal certification.

Consumers who are concerned are advised to check for a valid Halal logo before making a purchase or to avoid the product until further clarification is provided.
Meanwhile, social media users are reminded that while deepfakes and AI can create highly realistic content, they are often used to spread misinformation.
Should you have any concerns, you can always contact JAKIM at 03-8870 7000 to clear the air.
