Persuading a senior citizen to leave the house for congregational prayers turned out to be a trick by his family members to actually leave the man behind at a surau in Klang. The matter was uncovered by the Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) who immediately rushed to the surau after receiving information about a senior citizen who was reported to be sleeping there.

Through a statement uploaded on Facebook, LZS informed that the elderly man was found hungry, tired, and had leg pain due to a bacterial infection. The statement elaborated,

“As soon as we received information about the senior citizen, we rushed to help him as Selangor is the state with the highest Covid-19 cases at the moment. Of course it is dangerous if someone who belongs in the high-risk group sleeps in public places.”

The uncle shared that he’s not married and he does not have any children. He was previously taken care of by his nephew but because of the uncertainty for the family caused by the MCO, they decided to leave him at the Surau.

The uncle explained that he was persuaded by the family to follow them to pray together at the Surau. Initially, he did not expect that the family would leave him there but it was their plan all along. They even placed his clothes and some supplies in a bag for him.

Thanks to the swift action by Lembaga Zakat Selangor, the man will now be safely placed in a welfare home in Dengkil and LZS will bear the costs of care and treatment for the uncle.
