A few days ago, an elderly man was in the spotlight after a video of him getting allegedly assaulted by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) dog catchers with a metal rod went viral. It was reported that the elderly man was simply trying to protect his dogs from them.

In a recent statement by the police, they revealed that the man who suffered the alleged assault is currently being investigated for obstruction.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing injury and Section 186 for preventing a public servant from performing his duties.

He said the incident took place at Taman Kanagapuram.

“On March 25 about 10am, police received a report about a viral video of a stray dog round-up operation by MBPJ. The operation was carried out following complaints by the public.”

“While the operation was carried out, there was a local man trying to protect the wild dogs by bringing in the said animals into his premises. The complainant and his team tried to prevent the man from closing the door to his premises but failed to do so,” he said.

Fakhrudin added that a tussle broke out and the man was accidentally hit by a dog-catching iron rod by the MBPJ team.

Meanwhile, the alleged victim has since lodged a police report on the incident out out of concern for the welfare of his 2 dogs and a puppy.

“I was in my factory around 8pm and I heard the dogs that were guarding the premises, barking. I saw an unfamiliar group of men in uniform with a truck. They came without explaining anything to me and attacked me for defending my dogs.”

He said the officers did not issue a warrant or informed him of any prior orders to detain the dogs.
