With a plethora of Chinese New Year movies to catch up in the cinemas this year, not all will be up to par, unfortunately.
Singaporean filmmaker Jack Neo “served” audiences this year with his AI-themed CNY movie, I Want To Be Boss. Many unhappy filmgoers made their thoughts about the movie clear—they didn’t like what they saw.
Jack Neo, on the other hand, has a reminder for those who have watched his CNY movie and didn’t like it.
“Everyone differs in taste and opinion but please don’t persuade others to skip this movie.”

During a recent Facebook live session, Jack lamented about the haters of I Want To Be Boss, rhetorically asking about their point in spreading hate.
“What is your point? It’s okay if you don’t like it, but don’t tell others to not watch this. It’s not easy and it was very tiring for us behind the scenes while making a movie. We would never make anyone’s efforts go to waste.”
Jack admitted that the negative feedback for his movie made him unhappy, but as the mastermind behind the film, he felt the need to protect his movie.
“Please trust me when I say this, you won’t fall asleep watching my movie. My movie quality is not so bad that it makes you want to leave the cinema hall.”

Jack also reiterated that he accepts those who don’t enjoy his movie but urges them not to persuade others not to watch it.
I Want To Be Boss highlights the presence of AI and how it impacts society in Singapore. The movie stars Jack Neo himself and other veteran Singaporean actors, including Henry Thia, Patricia Mok, and Aileen Tan.
To those who have watched the movie, what do you think of it? What has been your best-rated CNY movie this year?
