OMG SO CUTE! <3
The Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) recently shared the birth of a female baby Tapir at its Wildlife Conservation Centre (PKHL) in Sungai Dusun Selangor. The cute baby Tapir is the offspring of two Tapir lovebirds (or love Tapirs, I guess) currently at PKHL, the adult male Tapir named boy and his female companion named Mala.
The baby Tapir, which is currently unnamed was born last Monday (21 March 2022) and weighs 8.85kg. And it’s super duper cute too! Check out photos of the baby Tapir alongside her mother in a Facebook post by PERHILITAN below:

PERHILITAN then did an update regarding the newborn cutie last Thursday (24 March 2022) in which they shared the baby Tapir learning to walk with encouragement from the wildlife conservationist officer on duty. Check out the incredibly cute full video below:
Native to Southeast Asia from the Malaysian peninsular to Sumatra, the Malayan Tapir is currently listed as endangered by the IUCN Red List since 2008. It is estimated that only 2,500 mature individuals are out there in the wild.
The biggest threats to the Malayan Tapir currently is loss and destruction of its habitat through deforestation. Let’s hope that this Tapir family would be the start of a new generation of the species that would persevere and prosper yet again. However, to do so, authorities must first address all the threats that the species face in our country.
What do you guys think of the video? Furthermore, do you think the government should introduce more measures to protect the Malayan Tapir species? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
