Weddings are, more often than not, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As such, many couples take this opportunity to throw extravagant ceremonies and realise the wedding of their dreams.
For this Game of Thrones-obsessed couple from Jakarta, their ideal wedding was obviously to exchange vows in a medieval-fantasy setting that mirrored the famous HBO series. After all, both of them are huge fans (who can spend hours talking about GoT) and the groom, Rekhaza Panji Riawan, 28, even introduced the TV show to his bride, Sista Mauli Wulandari, 27 when they first met, according to Daily Mail.
“Rekhaza is a major fanboy and I am a complete fangirl. He introduced me to it when we first got together and I was addicted,” she said.
Which is probably why no expense was spared for their big day, which took less than a year to plan, as they reportedly spent £10,000 (approx. RM56,000) on their customised Game of Thrones-themed wedding that was held in their home in Jakarta.
“Luckily, things aren’t as expensive here as they are in the UK,” Sista said.
Wardrobe wise, the couple got into full character too! In place of a traditional white wedding gown was a regal short dress intricately embroidered with hems that hovered above the knees while the ‘train’ comprised a floor-sweeping cape. Yup, she even sported elf ears!
Meanwhile, the groom dressed up as King Joffrey with an equally royal robe instead of a typical tux, complete with a sword as a fitting final touch.
The handsome couple even had guard of honours decked in handmade brown robes and carrying wooden swords who accompanied them down the aisle.
The 600 guests who were in attendance also followed the theme as some ladies donned matching forest green elf robes and flower crowns.
Of course, Sista had a fantastic day and loved both her outfit and her husband’s. “I loved being dressed as the Queen of the Elves and Rekhaza made such a handsome King Joffrey. Even though he is cruel in the series, we loved his costume,” she quipped.
Plus, instead of the traditional bouquet toss by the bride, the groom shot an arrow across the pool, so one of their lucky guests could catch it. “It was so romantic,” Sista said of the symbolic gesture.
Other GoT-inspired elements that were custom-made for the epic ceremony include the wedding invite, which had a coin from Westeros, the continent where most of the Game of Thrones’ action takes place. Even their wedding banner was inspired by the Baratheon crown!
Well, we can only imagine how magical the evening was! Would you go the extra mile to materialise your dream wedding? 😉
