An assistant cook in Alor Setar, Kedah, beat his employer to death after losing control at a restaurant in Jalan Stadium on Saturday.
The suspect, a 55-year-old male, used a stick against his 68-year-old employer, after the son of the victim and the wife of the suspect got into an argument over dirty utensils.
According to the Kota Setar Chief of Police Asst Commissioner Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir, the fight began circa 5.15pm.
“The fight began when the son of the restaurant owner spilled dirty water on clean utensils.”
“After the wife of the suspect exchanged words with the victim’s son, the owner scolded the suspect’s wife which began the war of words between the employer and his employee.”
After hurling obscenities, the suspect attacked the owner with a wooden stick, and punches were exchanged. The owner collapsed, before ambulance arrived at the scene, and died afterwards.
Netizens commenting on the tweet drew their own comments on the matter.
“Other than getting Typhoid shots, both employer and employee should undergo anger management courses.”
“There are instances where employers treat employees like dirt – which could be the root of depression.”
“I can’t believe fighting can result in the death of another.”
“Hopefully there’s justice for the employer’s family. Murder is no joke.”
Police are still investigating the cause of death. The suspect is now detained, and may be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
