China’s failure to win against Malaysia in a friendly football match at the Phoenix Hill Sports Park, Chengdu, sparked outrage among the home team’s supporters on Saturday (September 9).
According to a report by Sinar Harian, the mass of supporters who were present at the stadium to watch the match were severely dissatisfied after seeing the Chinese team, which is ranked 80th in the world, tie with Harimau Malaya, which is ranked 136th in the world.
Many of the fans were calling for the Chinese Football Association (CFA) to return their ticket money following what they described as a lackluster performance from the Chinese team as well as their coach, Aleksandar Jankovic.
The Chinese team’s legendary former player and now assistant coach, Zheng Zhi, even got into a verbal altercation with supporters as they exited the field at the end of the match.
“At Changdu’s Phoenix Hill Sports Park, when the DJ announced to 1:1 result of the friendly match between China and Malaysia, the fans booed and yelled, ‘Refund!’,” shared the China Sports Vision 2050 Twitter page, while sharing footage of the incident.
