With the rising cost of living and the soaring prices of raw materials, consumers are spending more cautiously, particularly when it comes to food. Despite this trend, a recent food festival in Sungai Petani, Kedah, has sparked debate over pricing and value.
Malaysian influencer Faiz Soul recently participated in the festival, where he sold donuts topped with a slice of cheddar cheese. The preparation is straightforward: a slice of cheddar is placed on the donut before it is heated in a microwave to slightly melt the cheese.

The dessert is then drizzled with sauce and served. Each donut is priced at RM10, a figure that has raised eyebrows across social media.

Faiz recently caused a stir online after admitting to “overclaiming” the benefits of his health products. He had previously asserted that his products were safe for individuals with various medical conditions, including diabetes, claiming that the apple cider vinegar content could help reduce blood sugar levels.
“3 donuts for 3 kids, that’s RM30 just for donuts”
Social media users were shocked by the price tag Faiz set for the dessert. Critics highlighted that the cost far exceeds that of donuts sold at established eateries and dessert chains.

“Sorry, I’m not going to waste RM10 on this.”
“This is too cheap. Should’ve included your face with the donut, and made it RM20,” a user commented sarcastically.

Another user highlighted how much it would cost for the parents who buy it for their kids, who are the expected target markets for the food.
“For instance, 3 donuts for 3 kids will cost RM30. The price is crazy for just donuts; it beats the prices at the malls.”

“Please stop being an enabler, that you’re willing to buy a donut for RM10. You can get that from a different franchise for less than RM10.”
“All this for RM10?”
Faiz’s response: a four-figure incentive
In a Facebook post last night (25 February), Faiz responded briefly to the backlash. He apologised for the pricing, stating he was sorry if customers were unhappy.

However, he reminded critics that every customer, even those who purchase only one donut, is eligible for a lucky draw coupon worth RM5,000.
