It appears that Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng, who is more famously known as Uncle Roger, is making international headlines again.
This time, he is being called out by the Cambodian government, who is demanding he make a public apology, for basically saying that their country’s food isn’t good.
The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism took to their Facebook page to share a statement in regards to this.
They wrote, “The Ministry of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia would like to inform national and international tourists, the private sector in the tourism industry and the public that the Ministry of Tourism is extremely disappointed after seeing a video that wrongly evaluates Cambodian food on social media, YouTube channel named Nigel Ng, published on July 30 (Sunday), entitled ‘Uncle Roger Make Adobo’.”
In Nigel Ng’s video, Uncle Roger mentions that not all Southeast Asian countries have good food. He then went on to list out Laos and Cambodia as examples of this.
“The assessment of the above individual completely deviates from the reality of the prestige and identity of Khmer food, and especially has seriously affected Cambodian food tourism, which the Royal Government of Cambodia, as well as the Ministry of Tourism, has strived to promote on the international stage to be widely recognised that ‘Cambodia has a Beautiful Culture and Unique Taste of its cuisine’.”
“In this regard, the Ministry of Tourism is working closely with relevant stakeholders and requests Mr. Nigel Ng or Uncle Roger, born on March 15 1991, to make a public apology to the Cambodian people and immediately edit the posted video on its social media channel,” they added.
