It’s the announcement of the Budget 2020 today and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng is in the midst of tabling the country’s annual budget. Many Malaysians have waited to see what is happening on any initiatives that are expected to help them handle the high cost of living.
He said that in a bid to revitalise the digital economy in Malaysia, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will be allocating RM250 million to build broadband access via satellite technology. The focus of this project is to improve connectivity in rural Malaysia, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.
Other than that, another RM210 million will be used to enhance the digital infrastructure in public buildings. These buildings include schools and high impact areas. Now that 5G is making an appearance, RM50 million grant funds to upgrade the 5G infrastructure and fiber optics will be allocated as well. Another RM20million will be given to MDEC to encourage local talent in producing digital content.
