In what’s sure a great loss to Indian cinema, an acting legend Irrfan Khan passed away today in Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. The actor battled with cancer since 2018 and was admitted in the ICU on April 28, following a colon infection.
The Indian Express reported that the actor’s health deteriorated, and he breathed his last on April 29.
His death was confirmed by the actor’s spokesperson who said that despite the actor’s struggles, he fought till the end and never gave up once.
“A man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him.”
The actor first rose to prominence with his out of the norm roles in Hindi movies like Paan Singh Tomar, The Lunchbox and Maqbool. However, soon Hollywood beckoned and Irrfan Khan starred in the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire. He even starred in big-budget flicks like The Amazing Spiderman, Jurassic World and the critically-acclaimed Life Of Pi. In a career spanning thirty years, Khan had received numerous awards, including a National Film Award and Filmfare Awards in four categories.
He leaves behind his wife, Sutapa and sons, Babil and Ayan.
