Malaysia’s chase for our country’s 1st Olympic gold medal sadly continues today after Azizulhasni Awang was just disqualified during the 1st heat of the men’s keirin event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The 36-year-old national track cycling champion, dubbed the ‘Pocket Rocketman’, was disqualified for overtaking the derny before it pulled off the track.
As a result, Matthew Glaetzer (Australia) and Jeffrey Hoogland (Netherlands) qualified for the keirin quarterfinals by finishing as the top pair in the heat.
An appeal has since been filed, but it had apparently been rejected by the judges.
As reported by Astro Arena, Azizulhasni’s disqualification has been confirmed at the French National Velodrome by the publication’s representative at the venue, Zulhelmi Zainal Azam.
