If you own a car and live in landed property, chances are you will probably have parked your car by the side of your street on more than one occasion. This is especially true for people living in houses where they only have enough room for one car in their porch. Well, if you’ve been leaving your car outside throughout the MCO period, you might want to check on it now.
In an incident that was recently reported, thieves are apparently now taking the opportunity to steal car parts from parked cars while most of us keep indoors! The Star reports that the crime happened in Penaga, Penang, when the owners of the cars left their vehicles outside of their front gates.
Upon waking up, the owners of the cars, a Perodua Myvi and a Perodua Alza, realised that thieves had stole the tyres of their cars.
Both car owners were left with bricks on each of the four sides of their cars where the tyres had been, keeping the undercarriage of the cars lifted off from the road. A police report was lodged yesterday (28th April 2020) over the matter.
According to North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor, despite the house having CCTV cameras equipped facing both cars, the thief’s face was not clearly visible on video.
It is unclear at this time as to who the perpetrators of the theft are, but we hope that those who committed this crime will be held accountable for their actions.
If you need any further reminder to check on your cars, this is probably a good time to do it!
