Hands down, this is the easiest investment you can do for your (future) children!
Did you know that all babies born in Selangor are eligible to receive RM1,500 from the government under Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (TAWAS)?
Although this programme was introduced several years ago and was covered by mainstream media, many young parents are still unaware of it. As such, when a mother of two recently shared her joy of receiving the perks, netizens were shocked and couldn’t believe it.
So, here are the different conditions that you should know about before applying TAWAS for your children, as any of these conditions will enable your child to be eligible for the money.
Condition 1
- The baby must be Malaysian
- The baby is either born in or out of Selangor from 1 January 2008 onwards
- The mother OR father was born in Selangor / the mother OR father was born in Kuala Lumpur before 1 February 1974
Condition 2
- The baby must be Malaysian and born from 1 January 2008 onwards
- Both the mother and father were not born in Selangor but have stayed in Malaysia for over five years
To prove their status of residency, the stamp can be acquired from:
- Selangor members of the Parliament
- DUN Selangor service centre
- Ketua Kampung
- Nazir Masjid
- Community leader
Condition 3
- The baby must be Malaysian
- The baby is born in any state that shares the border with Selangor (Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Perak) from 1 January 2008 onwards
- The mother OR father was born in any state that shares the border with Selangor (Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Perak)
Again, to prove the parents’ residency status, the stamp can be acquired through:
- Community leader
- Ketua Kampung
- Nazir Masjid
Bear in mind guys, the application must be done before the baby turns 3 years old. You will also need photocopies of their IC and MyKid/birth certificate.
The application can be done through these channels.
- Nearby DUN service centre
- Office of Yayasan Anak Warisan Selangor (YAWAS)
- Online application
Once the application has been approved, a ‘Si Manja’ card and a savings statement will be issued, whereby parents can collect them from the YAWAS office.
When your kid turns 18 and they’re ready to claim the RM1,500 money, you’ll have to produce this statement, so it’s extremely important to keep the savings statement safe. Otherwise, you’ll be fined RM10 for losing it.
So guys, spread the word and let all the young couples know about this! If you need more info, simply click here!
