A Covid-19 positive individual had gone out to vote at a polling station in the Alor Gajah district, prompting a thorough disinfection process being done at the location. The Alor Gajah District Health Office received a notification from the Covid-19 Assessment Center (CAC) Melekek, that a positive case of Covid-19 had gone out to vote at one of the polling centres in the Alor Gajah district.
Melaka State Health Director, Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said, as reported by FMT, that the test result for the patient was received from a private laboratory only after he completed the voting process and the patient did not show any symptoms at the time of voting.
Because of this, the PKD Alor Gajah has instructed the Election Commission (EC) at the polling centres involved to temporarily close the risk areas including the voting channels for thorough disinfection. He said,
“This disinfection was carried out with the cooperation of the fire department. The EC has taken immediate steps to open a new room as a voting channel by using new equipment. The Alor Gajah District Health Office (PKD) monitoring team has also been directed to the polling centres involved to ensure that infection control is carried out properly.”
Rusdi said further investigations are being carried out and all close and social contacts are being traced by the Alor Gajah PKD Operations Room.
