Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to certain conditions.

In a statement by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department today, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, granted the conditional pardon to Najib.

Subject to RM50 million fine

It said that the pardon is subject to Najib paying a fine of RM50 million and complying with the conditions imposed.

“Should he fail to comply with any of the conditions, this conditional clemency will be revoked and he shall immediately continue serving the remainder of his sentence in prison,” the statement said.

His pardon petition was considered in 2024

According to Sinar Harian, Najib was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million after the Kuala Lumpur High Court found him guilty on 28 July 2020 of seven charges involving RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

On 23 August 2022, the Federal Court dismissed Najib’s final appeal and upheld both his conviction and sentence. He began serving his prison term at Kajang Prison on the same day.
