In case you haven’t started planning your balik kampung journey, Chinese New Year in 2018 falls on 16th and 17th of February. Although it’s still three months away from now, bus tickets from Singapore to Malaysia are already selling like hot cakes!

According to China Press, 80 per cent of the tickets on 14th and 15th February are reportedly sold out as many have purchased the tickets to be back in time for reunion dinner.

“The price of bus tickets are determined based on the time and date. So far, tickets on the eve night of CNY are the most sought after. A trip from Singapore to Ipoh will cost SGD120 (RM370),” a Singaporean bus company told reporters.

“There’s still three months before Chinese New Year and the tickets are already sold out. What’s left are the tickets for additional buses, which are selling for SGD145 (RM450) per ticket!” said a Malaysian who will be heading to Ipoh from Singapore during CNY.

Seeing that the price has sky-rocketed, some netizens recommend travellers to opt for airplane tickets instead as they are slightly cheaper and faster. However, this may be a problem for those whose hometown doesn’t have an airport.

Although the rush for ticket-purchasing isn’t in full swing yet (at least not in our country), Malaysians are urged not to wait until the very last minute so that bus companies can estimate whether additional buses will be needed to cater to the consumer’s demand.
