Just last week, the Minister of Economic Affairs of Malaysia, Rafizi Ramli stated that the habit of dining out frequently is draining many Malaysians’ wallets, which leads to a monthly tight budget.

Another politician, Chua Wei Kiat, who is also the Deputy Head of Information for Keadilan voiced out his support for Rafizi’s statement. Chua did so by using instant noodles as an example on his Facebook post and pointed out that a bag of 5 packs of instant noodles costs RM4.80, and to eat a pack of instant noodles outside costs RM5.

“Rafizi was right. You save more if you eat at home. Please don’t be upset when a leader says something right.”

“This is not even standard 6 formula”

We cannot deny that frequently dining out drains our wallet and we save a lot more by cooking ourselves at home, despite the time constraint for some people. However, many Malaysian netizens are not happy with Chua’s “defensive mode” and said that his comparison to agree with what Rafizi said is irrelevant.

“Please keep your stupidity to yourself.”

“Did you go to school? The store owner has to calculate the cost of oil, water, and gas. How do we cook our own instant noodles at home?”

“It’s so easy to be a minister. With thousands of salary and multiple allowances, and in return, we receive formulas that are not even on par with standard 6.”

“So, are you telling us to dine out less? Why do the food vendors even run their business? For their shops to become a museum?”

“Don’t be mad when I’m telling the truth, Your stupidity is real.”

“Might as well go to the food courts out there at night and ask everyone to eat at home.”

Earlier, Rafizi said that on average, local households spend about one-third of their disposable income on cooked or takeaway food and that in other countries, dining out is seen as a luxury.

Regardless, do you agree with how Chua proved his point – eating at home saves a lot more?
