Massive Fire Breaks Out at Melaka Hotel While Over 1,000 Employees Attend Company Dinner Event

A fire broke out at a hotel in Melaka last night while employees of a waste management company were attending a dinner event in one of the halls.

Videos circulating online showed thick smoke billowing from the building as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.

Over 1,000 company employees were at a dinner event when a fire broke out

According to Berita Harian, over 1,000 employees of SWM Environment Sdn Bhd panicked when a hotel in Bukit Katil suddenly caught fire at around 8:00 PM. The dinner event was reportedly held to celebrate the employees.

Thankfully, everyone managed to evacuate the hall before the fire spread.

The fire is believed to have started shortly after the company’s general manager finished his speech, prompting attendees to leave immediately.

Meanwhile, Deputy Fire Officer II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid, the Public Relations Officer of the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), stated the department received the emergency call at 8:14 PM.

No deaths have been reported so far

Mohd Hafidzatullah added that a fire engine from the Bukit Katil Fire and Rescue Station was quickly sent to the scene after the call came in.

“All the people inside the hall managed to get out safely, and firefighting operations were carried out,” he said.

So far, no deaths have been reported, although one person is believed to have sustained minor injuries.
