Previously, we shared how the Langkawi International Airport’s festive decoration went viral due to its centrepiece, an ‘Under the Sea’ Christmas sand sculpture, resembling a “pile of poo” in the eyes of netizens.

Well, it looks like the airport management has taken note of the public criticism, as the sand sculpture has been ‘fixed’, as shared by social media users.

The viral ‘Under the Sea’ Christmas decoration at Langkawi International Airport has been updated

In the comments section of our Facebook post on the viral Christmas installation, a couple of netizens who had since visited the airport shared the current look of the sand sculpture.

In a photo shared by Facebook user Nizam Shah, the colourful starfish and seashells have been replaced with several strips of dark green tinsel with white tips instead.

Specifically, several tinsels with varying lengths are wrapped around the installation, making it look like a traditional Christmas tree. More so, with the red glittery star remaining at the top.

Meanwhile, netizen Trop C DA shared another angle of the updated sand sculpture, claiming that the previous iteration was merely a work in progress.

The Christmas installation will be on display throughout December

Besides that, Facebook user Shima Ramli shared a photo of the previous iteration of the Christmas decoration at a wider angle, revealing that it is placed behind rope stanchions to keep visitors from touching the sand sculpture. Moreover, there was also a signage stand giving more information about the festive installation.

The unique decoration was created by local sand sculptor and visual artist Ikhwan Saloot. He previously took to Facebook to reveal that the piece is actually Malaysia’s only ‘Under the Sea’ Christmas installation. It will be on display at the airport throughout December.
