Malaysia is undeniably 1 of the best food paradises but not everyone is able to eat EVERYTHING, depending on your allergy or faith and belief. For our Muslim friends, alcohol is a BIG NO.

Good food always goes viral and just recently, a “Halal” claypot chicken rice in Sri Petaling, KL circulated online, showing massive crowds lining up for the dish. The stall is located inside a Chinese restaurant and is operated by a Malay couple who speak fluent Chinese. Their stall has been there for quite some time but suspicion was recently raised when the couple were shown using rice wine in their cooking.

The original recipe of Claypot chicken rice does come with cooking wine but to cater to Muslim friends, the ingredient has to be removed. So, a “Halal” Claypot Chicken Rice with rice wine doesn’t sound too right.

The circulation of the video has caused many debates among Muslim customers, especially those who have patronised the stall in the past. It didn’t take long for the Malaysian Islamic Development Department, JAKIM to respond to the viral matter. In its Facebook post yesterday (September 10), JAKIM confirmed that they have never issued a Halal certificate to the said premise in Sri Petaling.

JAKIM also advised other Muslim consumers to be careful and particular when it comes to selecting places to eat.

The organisation, however, did not mention if the viral stall has been ordered to cease its operation.

To our Muslim friends, have you visited the viral stall in Sri Petaling before? If you’re concerned about the Halal status of a place, it’s best to visit places that have been certified “Halal” by JAKIM. You can check the status of the eateries here.
