Companies normally hold annual dinners to celebrate the efforts and contributions of their employees while motivating them to perform better for the year to come.

But, should a company humiliate their low performing staff in an effort to persuade them to do better?

The 奴工處 (Slave Labor Department) Facebook page took to their profile to share the distress of a Hong Kong insurance company employee who explained that their company had gotten their lowest performing members to go on stage during their annual dinner to slap each other.

They wrote, “Speaking of which, I participated in the annual dinner of an insurance company a few days ago. There was a scene of performance claiming to build an aggressive team.”

“They called more than a dozen employees with poor performance and divided them into groups of 2 to slap each other. Everyone in the audience was stunned. I don’t know if it’s against the law to do so?”

This act certainly shouldn’t be condoned to promote and encourage violence among team members, or to humiliate employees in front of their peers as such.

We genuinely hope that the effected staff members leave the insurance company for better opportunities and healthy working environments.

What would you have done if you were in the employees’ shoes? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
