The Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) is sometimes known for its late, inefficient service and the backed up large crowd who are there to renew their travel documents. Just recently, a Malaysian in Sungai Petani, Kedah took to social media to rant about his dissatisfaction with the inefficiency of UTC Sungai Petani.

In the Facebook group Penduduk Sungai Petani (PSP), the man revealed that he wanted to visit the center to apply for a border pass before visiting his family in Thailand. Despite visiting the place for the 3rd time, he has yet to obtain his border pass, all thanks to the inefficiency of the place. During the first visit, he went to UTC at 2pm and was told that the place has ran out of numbers.

He then decided to visit the place again earlier, around 10 in the morning, only to find out there was a long queue waiting. The queue stretched all the way to the canteen, and 45 minutes later, he was once again told that there are no more numbers left.

This time,  he skipped breakfast and reached UTC at 6:40am, and he was confident that he would get the first number. When the center opened its door at 8 am, he was told that the system was down! We guess he was simply out of luck for those times.

Anyone would get irritated and angry if the same cycle of inefficiency repeats, and that was exactly what he felt. However, he told himself to calm down before he acted irrationally.

“Please change the way things work!”

He then highlighted that he isn’t the only one facing this issue as many other visitors suffer the same fate. As he found the practice unfathomable, he urged for a change in the way things are done, now that we are living in the digitalised era.

“A developed country should improve its system and ease the procedure. Make online applications available and stop this long-queue culture,” he explained.

He then added that the culture of “system down and long queue” does not only happen at UTC but in many other places where it has troubled the people.

“I love Malaysia but please, help us, Minister!”

While changes are taking place in the country (slowly but surely), he urged the ministers to oversee these matters and solve the issue of empty counters.

“There are 10 counters but only 2 to 3 are available!”

If you travel frequently and need your documents renewed, you may find this situation (oddly) familiar. Have you experienced any of the situations mentioned above?
