Voting for the general elections is certainly something that all Malaysians should do.

In a Facebook post that has gone viral, we see an employee asking for leave from her boss to go back and vote.

The post by lawyer Toh Harnniann who is a partner in a law firm in Klang goes like this:

“She was holding an A4 paper when she asked to see me. When she came in, she requested leave on 18 November.”

“I asked her for what and she told me that she wants to go home and vote. Well, it was reasonable for her to ask for a day of leave so that she can drive home.”

Workers Talking To Each Other

The lawyer then proceeded to ask where his employee will be voting in and she says that it is Iskandar Puteri, all the way in Johor.

At that time, the lawyer wanted to test this employee’s willingness to vote, so he said: “I heard from HR that you have used up all your leaves. So if you want to go back and vote, you will need to take unpaid leave and we will have to deduct some of your pay. Do you still want to go to vote?”

He continued, “just rest in Klang. Win or lose, it doesn’t really concern you.”

However, his employee was very bent on going home and requested to take unpaid leave and for her boss to deduct her salary.

The lawyer decided to push further by saying, “you still want to go back and vote even if we deduct your salary? Think it through, you’ll have to brave several jams to get home and come back to Klang. Is it worth it?”

To which, the employee answered firmly: “It’s worth it. Deduct my pay. I want to go home and vote.”

Finger Dip In Ink Vote

Her unchanged decision had moved her boss and he felt proud to have someone this wonderful in the firm. So, he kept up with his act and wrote on her leave request form that she is to have a special paid leave“.

“A 26-year-old is willing to go through so much trouble just to go home and vote. Wouldn’t it be wrong for a 42-year-old boss to not give them a day of paid leave?”

Toh Harnniann ended the post by asking everyone to go vote.

This is certainly a very wonderful sharing. We hope that those who are able to go and vote will vote. Your choice matters and the future of this nation is at the tip of your pen. Go vote!
