Not being able to pay after dining at a restaurant can be a very humiliating experience, what more if the restaurant owner got angry and started yelling about it.

This is what happened to an elderly man when a restaurant owner shouted at him for not having enough money to pay for his and his family of 9’s meal.

Little did everyone know that something worse had happened…

Not having enough money

“The whole restaurant heard the tauke sounding this uncle and his family“, said Fahmi Huzairi who witnessed the restaurant owner aunty yelling at the family and recounted it through a Facebook post.

I can’t reach my son-in-law. He asked us to eat here,” said the uncle as his face turned pale.

That’s your business. Then are you not going to pay after eating? The total is RM259.”

Feeling bad for the uncle who was wearing a thobe and a turban, Fahmi attempted to distract the shop owner by asking her to calculate his bill first.

When she arrived at his table, Fahmi offered to pick up the tab for the uncle and his family’s meal, with one condition: that the shop owner would apologise to the uncle and say that his family’s meal is on her.

“But why? Why can’t you just say that it’s on you?” said the shop owner, puzzled.

“The uncle is probably going through some family problems. When aunty scolded him, aunty already humiliated him in front of everyone.”

“So, I’d like for aunty to fix the issue so that his dignity and your credibility can both be restored.”

Fahmi further explained that scolding the uncle will give the shop owner a bad reputation as other customers will start gossiping and speaking badly about her and her restaurant.

“In reality, I know that aunty is a good person. I’ve been your customer for a long time“, said Fahmi, as the aunty realised how she might have been too harsh earlier.

A car accident

After the aunty made amends with the uncle and his family and they exchanged apologies, the family of 9 suddenly got up from their table and rushed into their van.

It turns out that the uncle’s son-in-law had gotten into an accident, which explains why he was neither able to pick up the uncle’s call nor come to the restaurant as promised.

“Thank you for enlightening me. Let me pay you back for the family’s meal,” said the aunty to Fahmi after discovering the truth about the uncle’s son-in-law.

If I had continued scolding him, I would’ve felt so guilty,” she said as she offered to treat both Fahmi and the family to their meals.

Unsurprisingly, Fahmi rejected the aunty’s proposition and asked her to use the money to help those who may not have money to eat.

Bless Fahmi for his quick-wittedness and kindness in that situation. We hope the family is doing alright.
