Phase 1 of SUKE Expressway Opens Today & it Will Be Toll-Free For 1 Month

Time after time, multiple efforts have been done to ease hectic traffic congestion, and recently, the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway SUKE. The first phase of the expressway will officially open to public use today (September 16) on Malaysia Day at 12 pm. 

Not only that but users of the expressway will have the luxury of enjoying toll-free travel for one month, effective today, reported Sin Chew.

The good news was announced by Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof yesterday evening (September 15) at the official opening ceremony at the Bukit Teratai toll plaza.

Phase 1 of SUKE stretches as long as 16.6 km and is expected to ease the congestion along roads such as the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) and Jalan Loke Yew by 30% and 12%, respectively. The journey is also expected to be reduced from 75 minutes to 25 minutes. 

As of now, the 1st phase of SUKE will pass through the Cheras-Kajang highway and Cheras Hartamas. Here’s a list of the other exits and entrances.

  • Tasek Tambahan
  • Permai
  • Taman Kosas
  • Pekan Ampang
  • Ampang Point
  • Taman Hillview
  • Bukit Antarabangsa

It will also consist of two toll plazas, namely the Bukit Teratai and the Ampang toll gate, as well as a rest area.

In the meantime, the elevated flyover on SUKE is as high as 56.4 metres, which is equivalent to an 18 storeys building.

When fully completed by the first quarter of next year, SUKE will be a 24.4km long road that starts from Sri Petaling, which connects the Kesas Expressway, all the way to Jalan Hulu Kelang.

Upon its completion, a total of 14 interchanges will be made available which is expected to connect users to these expressways.

  • KL-Seremban Expressway,
  • Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya),
  • Cheras-Kajang Expressway (CKE),
  • MRR2
  • Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (Akleh)
  • Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE)

In terms of safety, rest assured that motorists can travel in peace as the highway will be monitored by 40 CCTVs and will be equipped with 22 emergency phones. Additionally, operators will be alerted about events, such as breakdowns & accidents along the expressway with the 22 devices that form part of the automated vehicle accident detection system.

If you’re travelling to your destination via SUKE today, do remember to drive safe and hopefully, the traffic congestion in the coming days will see an improvement.
