Malaysian rapper Caprice is known to get into controversies in the past for his videos as well as his divisive takes on certain issues.

Following the recent backlash over the amendments made to the Generational End Game Bill, Caprice has shared his thoughts on the issue.

Taking to Instagram, the local rapper said that although he supports the GEG bill, he thinks that now isn’t the best time to deal with the issue as the economy isn’t great, the cost of living has increased and people are just trying to recover from the effects of Covid.

He then added that as cigarettes and vapes have already been declared as haram, he thinks that the selling of alcohol should also be included and be banned from future generations.

Caprice added that we should follow Brunei, Saudi and Qatar who have various controls on the sale of alcohol.

He asked his followers whether or not they agreed with him and if there are a lot that do, he would personally go to parliament to put forward this view for the future generation.

“Kids in the future can go clubbing and not drink alcohol and we can punish clubs that do sell alcohol.”

Some agreed with his stance

Although his video drew mixed reactions from his fans, the majority seemed to agree with him on the banning of the sale of alcohol in general.

“Agreed. Because of drunk drivers, so many of the rakyat who are innocent died. This should be banned first,” said a user.

Another user who lost his friend due to an accident cause by a drunk driver also agreed with Caprice’s statements.

Not as easy as it seems

On the other hand, some of his fans disagreed with his stance and said that it must be considered that Malaysia is not just home for Muslims.

It would be hard to ban alcohol as Malaysia is filled with other races. Alcohol is not for Muslims. If we banned the sale of alcohol, the alcohol manufacturers would have to close in Selangor. The government would then give the excuse of losing millions in taxes every year,” said a fan.

Another commented, “Sorry Cap but I don’t agree with this as some people consume alcohol for its health benefits at one point too and if can, just sell it to people above (the age of) 25 and close those bars that sell cheap alcohol because that’s what is destroying the rakyat.”

“Malaysia is a multi cultural and diverse country. So to ban the sale of alcohol to Muslims is okay but what about those non-Muslims in Sabah and Sarawak? This issue must be examined properly,” said another user.

What is your stance on it? Do you agree with his statements?
